V.tal launches the Tecto Data Centers brand for its data center business unit

Tecto stands out in the sector by offering a neutral, complete and integrated ecosystem  of data centers and national and international connectivity from V.tal.

The new brand was launched at the event to lay the foundation stone for the large-scale data center Mega Lobster, in Fortaleza.

São Paulo, October 17, 2024 – V.tal, a global end-to-end digital infrastructure solutions company operating in the Americas and owner of the largest neutral fiber optic network in Brazil, presents the new brand for its data center business unit, Tecto Data Centers. The company recently announced the separation of this unit from its other Neutral Network FTTH (Fiber To The Home) and Wholesale businesses, to provide greater focus and long-term vision, in addition to addressing an initial investment plan of US$ 1 billion. The launch of the new brand takes place today at an event that symbolizes the start of construction on the large-scale data center, Mega Lobster, in Fortaleza.

Pedro Henrique Fragoso, a partner at BTG Pactual, will be the executive responsible for Tecto, which will now have its own structure and governance, as well as a dedicated and experienced team. “The data center business is becoming increasingly strategic for V.tal, which has significant knowledge in investments and infrastructure projects. Considering that, we have decided to separate the unit. We have developed a robust plan for the construction of new edge and hyperscale data centers that will place us on a new level in this market,” reveals Pedro Henrique Fragoso, CEO of Tecto.

Tecto currently has data centers in operation in Brazil and Colombia and plans to expand to two more cities – Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul, and Santana de Parnaíba, in São Paulo, in the initial phase. All of Tecto’s data centers are connected to V.tal’s network, which consists of 26,000 km of submarine optical cables connecting Brazil with Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Colombia, the United States and Bermuda, which are also connected to the high-capacity network with more than 450,000 km distributed throughout all regions of Brazil.

Tecto’s strategy is to expand its data center fleet to meet the demands of cloud and content providers, hyperscalers, telecom operators and government for storage of large volumes of mission-critical data and computing, in addition to enabling the service of private and public content exchange points. The investment plan includes the construction of new projects in all regions of Brazil. “Our vision involves a strategy of a neutral, complete, and integrated ecosystem of Tecto data centers and national and international connectivity from V.tal. This convergence becomes a crucial factor as artificial intelligence and cloud workloads rely on a more distributed architecture, aiming for greater proximity to the end user and their applications,” states Fragoso.

Sustainability is also a strategic pillar for the company, which has been implementing practices that minimize environmental impact. V.tal is developing solar power plants, in partnership with relevant market operators, to produce its own clean energy at competitive costs for the operation of Tecto’s data centers, which will be supplied by 100% renewable energy. In addition, the development of data centers in all regions of Brazil contributes to improving the quality and reducing the cost of national broadband, by distributing content storage, relieving the burden on the telecommunications and data transport system, and promoting national digitalization.

Large-scale, high-density data center Mega Lobster
The Tecto brand will be officially launched today during an event with authorities and the press to lay the foundation stone for the large-scale, high-density Mega Lobster data center in Fortaleza. Located in Praia do Futuro, the new data center will occupy an area of 13,000 m2 and will have a capacity of 20 MW. The new project will receive investments of approximately R$550 million and is expected to generate more than 450 jobs between the construction and operational phases.

Tecto’s Mega Lobster will benefit from V.tal’s high-capillarity terrestrial fiber infrastructure to connect in a diversified way to a neutral ecosystem, offering operators and content and cloud providers end-to-end solutions to access the Central PIX (Internet Exchange Point) of Ceará, which registers the second largest volume of internet traffic in Brazil.
